The ToTm: Total Operator & Tool Management System

ToTm is the latest, most innovative, accurate vibration monitoring technology on the market today.

The ToTm System comprises of four elements

1. Operator specific wrist worn ToTm which is the size and weight of a normal wrist watch
2. ToTm Sensors that are permanently attached to any vibrating tool and accurately measure vibration magnitudes and durations
3. ToTm Programmer, this connects to a PC and facilitates programming of ToTm and ToTm sensors and all data uploads to the Management Information System
4. ToTm Management Information System. The system stores all information relating to operatives in an open database format detailing their tool useage and vibration exposure. The system has a comprehensive range of standard management reports. Users are able to generate custom reports simply and easily

ToTm assists in the comprehensive management of employee’s exposure to Hand Arm Vibration. It provides full monitoring of operatives vibration exposure levels. ToTm provides tool tracking data to enhance asset management. The clock within the ToTm ensures all operatives are working to Standard Time.

ToTm utilises a universal operative’s alert warning vibration system that is fully compliant with the safety exposure limits (Exposure Action Value, EAV and Exposure Limit Value, ELV) recommended by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE)

• Vibration is accurately measured at +/- 1%
• Every ToTm Sensor is individually calibrated during manufacture to ensure its accuracy
• ToTm allows a permit to operate system for tools requiring specialist operator training

How does it work?

ToTm is a wrist worn device which should be issued to all operatives who may potentially experience any exposure to vibration

• A ToTm sensor is placed on every tool which emits vibration, no matter how low the vibration emission
• ToTm is placed on the wrist by the operative before they enter a site
• The Totm is then held over the programmer to begin data collection and effectively sign the operator in on site
• Operatives ToTm and ToTm sensors communicate using encrypted RF communication technology. The system is fully automatic and requires NO action from the operatives
• The green LED on both the ToTm and ToTm sensor illuminates when the tool is in use to inform the operative that the devices have ‘handshaked’ and both are fully operational
• The operator is then able to go about their duties using which ever tool is required throughout their working day
• The amber LED will illuminate if an operative has reached the recommended EAV
• The red LED will illuminate when the operative has reached the recommended ELV and must inform a site supervisor/manager who should therefore ensure that no exposure to vibration is experienced again that particular day
• At the end of the working day as the operative is leaving site they must again hold the ToTm over the programmer to download all the data for that particular day
• The data should be reviewed by Health & Safety Managers daily to ensure ELV’s are not being exceeded.

ToTm Management Information System

• Informs Managers at what time the operator arrived and departed from site
• It will also indicate if the ToTm has been removed from the operatives wrist at any point during the working day
• It provides a list of all the tools the operator has used that particular day and exactly what amount of vibration they were exposed to from every individual tool
• A record of exactly when an operative’s EAV and ELV were reached and how much vibration exposure they received
• The data highlights which tools were used by whom throughout the day and identifies who used which tool last
• If an operator uses any tools they are not authorised to or indeed have not been issued certificates/permits to operate a specific tool then a warning on the report will appear
• Stores all operators and tool data in an open architecture database allowing users to easily generate custom reports.
